So, I thought it would be fun to have a random question every week for people to discuss.

This week’s question is: What is a classic/popular Sci-Fi or Fantasy movie that you’ve never watched?
(This is a safe place, no Nerd Cards will be taken. lol)

I actually have a couple of movies that pop to mind that I’ve never watched, at least not all the way through. First is Dune. I haven’t seen even a second of it. I was not even familiar with it until I was already out of high school, by then I had met LTG, who apparently had been forced to watch it repeatedly by a former boyfriend, so she hates it and hasn’t really given me a reason to watch it.

Second, and this is one I’m nervous about admitting, I’ve never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey the whole way through. I’ve seen the first bit and I’m familiar with the story, but when I tried watching it back in my teens, I got bored and turned it off. I probably should give it another go. I’ll have to track it down.

Don’t leave me hanging in my shame. Who else hasn’t seen something?

i cant think of any i haven’t seen, soon as i find out about something i usually go and see it so i probably don’t know about those movies rather then just haven’t seen them, and you wanna talk about boring try watching THX1138. i even keep most of them, got about 500gb of movies on my external drives, to infect ppl with nerdism.

I’m sure there are quite a few that I haven’t seen. My dad watched a whole lot of them when I was growing up, and I was forced to sit in there and watch them with him, LOL. So I’ve “seen” a lot of them (the quotes are there because I was, like, 5? 6? and after that I just didn’t care anymore …).

Oh I know one! Soylent Green. I have NOT seen that one!

I think the reason you may have missed Dune in the beginning is just the age window. When I was a kid it was on HBO all the time so I watched it a lot. I haven’t seen it in many decades and you may have just prompted me to watch it again.

2001 is a very very strange movie. It’s weird in the beginning, then there’s a cool middle part, then it gets over the top weird again at the end. I need to rewatch that one too as an adult.

you wanna talk about boring try watching THX1138.

I started watching that one because I was curious about it. Being one of Lucas’ first films and the one that THX is named after. I couldn’t get through it. So weird and boring indeed.

I have a few movies that I have never seen that are some of the most popular movies of all time but I can’t think of any nerdy ones at the moment. I finally saw The Godfather not too long ago and still need to see the other two, I wasn’t impressed to be honest. (commence the beating)

Yeah, I guess seeing that movie this year and comparing it to all the other great more modern gangster movies I just think it moved way too slow and didn’t have the action I’m used to. I wish I would have seen it as a kid.

Dune is in my Top Five. I have it on DVD, and my kids can quote lines from it as we’ve seen it so often. One of those movies, for me, that if it is ever on I have to stop and watch it.

Sci-fi movies I have -not- seen? Sincerely, I can’t think of one. Nor can my wife (think of one for me, that is). Sci-Fi has always been my Thing. I even fish through the B-movies on Netflix for odd ones.

I have never seen Titanic, if that helps? It was huge when it came out, and everyone I knew had seen it at least once. And I never will. I also think Leonardo DeCaprio is a terrible actor, and he taints every movie he is in to the point that I may not watch it. So, there is that?

I have to admit I don’t recall ever hearing anyone say this before. Coincidentally, Qeelin and I had a conversation yesterday about how we thought we was a good actor and couldn’t think of anything we’d seen with him that we didn’t like.

I have to agree. When DeCaprio first hit the scene I didn’t like him just because he was considered a bit of a hear throb but now that he’s grown up I like almost every movie he’s in. Particularly The Departed, Shutter Island, The Man in the Iron Mask, and Catch Me if You Can. I think he’s an amazing actor.

Most people have that opinion. I don’t mind being an oddball. 🙂

Oh I am an extreme oddball. Why be ordinary, it’s so boring. You only live once.

While I’m not a huge DiCaprio fan, (I honestly think he’s a bit overrated), Inception was the exception, not because of him particularly, but the whole movie was amazing.

Ok, here is my dune story…
Let’s go back to a time when I was a nerd, but had not fully embraced it…this was a magical but horrifying time called “High School.”
The year was 2000 and the young Laura was not yet dubbed “the great”. She was a thin chesty band nerd who excelled in academics but was too shy to make friends most of the time. She had accidentally gotten herself a boyfriend. (No really) The boyfriend was a nerd in his own right and most of their “dates” consisted of watching Futurama in bean bags in his bedroom floor. His mother was suspicious of a the teenaged LTG and was ever watchful. One evening, the over bearing mother was not there. She had gone out of town for the week. LTG’s boyfriend invited her over every night that week. His father was less suspicious and wanted nothing more than to sit in his chair drinking a bud light and to watch television. The first night was a teenagers dream, no parental interruptions of the making out. The next night, the boyfriend announced that he had a special surprise for the young LTG, they were going to sit in the living room with his father and watch Dune. The young LTG was not amused. The next night, the activity repeated, and the following two nights as well. LTG was not pleased.

I don’t recall anything from the movie itself. For years, the mere mention of the movie Dune pissed me off.

That being said, I would be open to watching it with my husband now.

I’ve never seen Clock work Orange, but I do have the desire to.
